Why not have a party at home this year, with lots of sparkle, and let the kids join in? Here are our favorite kid-friendly ways to see out 2019 and ring in 2020…you don’t even have to stay up to midnight to have a good time!

Dress to Impress

Even if you’re staying at home, it still makes a party feel extra special if you dress up in your ritziest clothes! Kids will love sparkly accessories, like our Metallic Fan headband, Mini Glittered Crowns, in silver or gold, or the always impressive Iridescent Cape and Wand Set.

Celebrate on Paris time

If your children are too little to stay up to midnight, celebrate when the clocks strike midnight in Paris instead. You’ll be several hours ahead, so you can all get to bed at a decent hour! Make the French theme as big as you want – serve delicious French cuisine; fill cups with Champagne for the adults and sparkling grape juice for the kids; use red, white and blue tableware, like our stripy red and white range or stripy aqua and white range or opt for stylish shiny silver or on-trend metallic fringing. Babies will love to join in the French themed fun by playing with our gorgeous organic cotton Eiffel Tower rattle. When it’s midnight in Paris, switch on your computer so you can all watch the fabulous fireworks light up the Eiffel Tower.

Host a movie night

Create a special movie night by decorating the room with fairy lights, garlands, balloons and colourful chandeliers, like our fabulous Moon and Stars Chandelier. Use blankets and cushions to make a cosy setting. Fill bowls with lots of different snacks, and hand out paper bags so the kids can make their own pick-and-mix.

Good choices are movies, set on New Year’s Eve, like the exciting disaster movie The Poseidon Adventure (the original, not the remake, it’s much better!); The Gold Rush, a silent Charlie Chaplin movie featuring his famous ‘bread roll’ dance; Bundle of Joy, a musical with Eddie Fisher and Debbie Reynolds and, for very little people, Happy New Year, Charlie Brown.

Play New Year party games

Midnight can feel like a looooong time away if you don’t have any activities planned! So, keep everyone entertained with fun party games while you wait for the big countdown. We think these are great fun:

Midnight countdown balloon game

Write down 12 easy child-friendly activities on small pieces of paper - like playing a board game, having fun with sparklers (with adult supervision!), making cookies etc. Put a piece of paper inside each of 12 balloons, like our colourful Mixed Star Balloons, and blow them up. Write a time on each balloon. Get the kids to pop each balloon at the respective time and then carry out the activity written on the paper inside.

Indoor scavenger hunt

Hide treats and little gifts, like candy and temporary tattoos, around the house and release a new clue every 30 minutes to keep the laughter lasting. Make sure littles are teamed up with older children so they can help each other.
